The Los Angeles Health Care Workforce Development Program provides you with help you need to get ahead.  These FREE classes offer you the chance to review the fundamental Math and English skills necessary to prepare you for college level courses, introduction to concepts commonly found on promotional exams, and practice for individuals who have been out of school.  

*All potential students will be placed according to their abilities.  Placement is determined by a short assessment. 

 

Building Skills for Success

 

English

If you are returning to school after a long absence and in need to practice your basic writing skills, then this class is for you.  This nine-week course includes a review of basic writing principles including grammar and sentence structure integrate with some college study skills.  This goal of this course is to provide participants with the writing skills needed to successfully enter an Academic Preparation Course.  This class is structured to encourage in-class activities providing the instructors an opportunity to have one-on-one time with all participants.

Math

This nine-week course includes a review of basic math functions including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of real numbers, combined operations and introduces students to word problems.  The goal of this class is to provide participants with math practice and a review of concepts as they continue with their long-term educational goals.  Attendance of this class is on your own time.

This nine-week English course is for individuals who are interested in improving and reviewing their Reading and Writing skills.  This course has been designed to prepare students to enter into college-level English courses.  Students will engage in a comprehensive review of essay writing, reading comprehension, and study skills for college success.
